Welcome!

Updated: Aug 21

Hello there! I'm Laura.

Welcome to my very first blog post.

I'm thrilled you've stumbled upon my little corner of the internet, the Cedar Hill Quill - a personal blog about life in my new hometown of Cedar Hill, Texas.

COFFEE vs. TEA

If you're anything like me, you probably enjoy a warm, comforting beverage to kick-start your day. So, grab your favorite mug – mine's an Ember mug that is perpetually filled to the brim with coffee – and let's get to know each other a bit better, shall we?

Which do you prefer - coffee or tea?

For me, it's coffee. There’s something so wonderful to me about the aroma of a freshly brewed cup of coffee. It kick-starts my day and perks me up in the afternoon. Whether it's the rich, bold smell and flavor of my favorite Sumatra coffee blend or the comfort of my Folgers Half-Caff, a good cup of joe feels like a warm welcome to whatever the day might bring. It's a steadfast companion as I sit on my back patio in the mornings, taking in the big blue Texas sky, my newly planted crepe myrtle trees, and the sprawling park just over my back fence. Oh, how I love those first few sips of brew in the morning.

Having said that, I also enjoy tasting various tea blends from time-to-time.

What about you?

I will be sharing info about some of my favorite coffee and tea blends and experiences in the days ahead and would love hear about yours along the way as well.

BOOKS

This blog won't just be about coffee and tea. As the daughter of a librarian, I grew up with a deep love for books. Now that I'm retired, I am eager to cultivate a steady habit of reading. I plan on sharing information about what I'm reading - from mysteries that keep me up at night to non-fiction that feeds my mind and provides fresh perspectives - here on my blog.

Do you enjoy reading too? If so, what genres?

CEDAR HILL

Cedar Hill, Texas is a medium-size suburb (population approximately 48,000) just south of Dallas.

My husband and I fell in love with a house here last summer and bought it - putting down roots after decades of traveling and living all over the world.

I am hoping to find, in and around this area, a treasure trove of local culture and hidden gems. As I explore these, you can read about my discoveries here on the blog. Whether it’s an annual local festival, a new-to-me walking trail, a quaint local shop, a fabulous bookstore, or a local coffeehouse with great ambiance and brew options, I hope to bring you along on each little adventure of mine.

Whether you're a fellow Cedar Hill resident, a visitor, or a virtual traveler, I hope this blog brings you helpful helpful information, a sense of community, and a little slice of joy. I like making new friends and connections and finding and celebrating beauty in even the most mundane of circumstances and surroundings.

Thank you for joining me here. I look forward to many more posts. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and stay awhile. There’s so much more to come!

Warm Regards,

Laura
